The olive oil of Lesvos doesn’t hold such an important place in the Mediterranean diet by chance. The “father of medicine” Hippocrates and the greatest doctors of the time, recommended its use daily as treatment in many cases.

Today, many scientific studies show that olive oil is a valuable ingredient and strong weapon against chronic diseases and in particular organic extra virgin olive oil. It is linked to low mortality rates, cardiovascular diseases and cancer to those who consume it daily. Its high contented of unsaturated fatty acids and low of saturated and polyunsaturated in combination with its high content of vitamin E and other antioxidants, make olive oil an excellent medicine for both treatment and prevention of diseases.

Due to its nutrients, its contribution to the prevention of cardiovascular and gastrointestinal disorders and its anticancer properties, the Mediterranean diet recommend daily consumption of two-three tablespoons of olive oil (180 calories).
